The Proteas are coming and the Aussie press have started their fun and games .They have Dale Steyn firmly in their sights,

Much the same way that they targeted Jacques Kallis in the last Protea tour to Australia, the press have decided that Dale Steyn is the one to rattle.

A double-page ‘exclusive’ and a screaming Monster headline in this morning’s Herald Sun leads with “take a bit of Allan Donald, a slice of Malcolm Marshall and a dash of Brett Lee. The result is an Aussie batsman’s biggest nightmare.”

The writer continues breathlessly: “A seriously fast right-armer with a devastating outswinger, Steyn has emerged as the hottest property in the game after passing 100 wickets quicker than South Africa’s most celebrated paceman Allan Donald. He now has 135 at the very good average of 22.08 and an astonishing strike-rate of 36.6, the second best in the history of the game. He has Australia in his sights”

Cricket in Australia is struggling. The world champs are down - Matty Hayden is past it; Punter Ponting is fighting with Allan Boarder and Ian Chappell over over rates (and his greyhounds are not winning); Lee is a shadow of himself after a traumatic marriage break-up; Clarke likes the bright lights with his glamorous girlfriend (Crickets Posh ‘n Becks); there is no spinner and the disruptive influence of Andrew Symonds.

The media are starting to wade in - unsettle the Proteas management, destabilise the star players and that way level the playing field.

Oh, as an aside, Australia plays New Zealand to-day. It’s buried deep within the paper.
