A Week in Provence - Winter [2]
It’s been a week of consolidation, unpacking and then planning for the next few months as our project starts to unfold again.
But, Amazon did some deliveries while we were away and 24 - Season 7 was waiting. The firewood has been brought in and there has been a steady diet of Jack Bauer!
America has Vermont with its impressive trees changing colours. Here in the Luberon we are amazed at the daily changing landscape.

It is fascinating learning the French customs on how they add to the ambience of their houses as the seasons change. Earlier in the year we’ve had the cherry blossoms, miniature olive trees, roses from the gardens. the sunflowers and now that it is autumn, its chrysanthemums in pots and miniature vegetables

It strikes us that the ‘Provencal’ shops all over the world are missing a trick with not adding in some live, growing flavour to their merchandise to give a real feel (listening, Melanie?)
We’ve had a conference with Gilles the gardener and Jose the builder. No Jean-Pierre for the translation! We managed - we think.
Gilles is coming to put the garden to sleep for the winter, cover certain of the plants for the frost and general bunker down.
We’re talking to Jose about phase 2 of the poolhouse - adding to the back for a mini-kitchen, wood store, roof and cement floor. Also a stone channel next to the driveway to keep the stones in place. Jose is also going to be cutting a spice cabinet into the pantry to make more space.
On the way to St Remy on Wednesday we side-swiped the gypsies and are having some furniture re-painted and also considering a bookcase and a wonderful table unit for the poolhouse.
Madame is pouring over the vegetable growing books. The garden shed location has been marked out but needs to wait for Erica’s final approval in situ before we head off to Avignon and negotiate purchase, delivery and construction (a challenge awaits!).
