Gordes – one of the most beautiful villages in France, silhouetted against the winter sun.

The door to the medieval gaol in Ménerbes, Luberon.

Twilight at Bastide les Amis – a winter’s evening.

The Medical Centre arises fronted by a young lavender field.

Coming out of the ground is the new Ménerbes Medical Centre.

Here’s an extract from the summary of the Mayor’s report-back to the village last week with regard to progress:

This project combines all the village medical offers: pharmacy; medical practices (general practitioner, physiotherapist, osteopath, dentist, nurses) and 14 new apartments (of which 10 will be preserved ‘in heritage’ by the Village). The new Medical Centre was part of the electoral programme of our current Mayor, Mr Christian Ruffinatto on a site less sensitive than in 2013. It is being constructed between the school and the multipurpose hall (‘Salle Polyvalente’).

The Centre will be complete at the end of August and opens shortly afterwards as a major asset for the village.

Some more scratching under the surface ofthe Roman town Cavaillon. The town also had a famous period in the time of the Avignon Popes (14th and 15th Centuries) as the Holy Mens’ money lenders (or, more politely, their bankers) were based in Cavaillon.

I know aa little girl who would like this in her garden.

Sunset in Provence – mid winter.

Ménerbes from the eastern side.

Our home village, Ménerbes is now aiming for another classification – we’re already One of the Most Beautiful Villages, and a Village Fleuri (Flower Village), now it seems the objective is to become ‘A Remarkable Village’. The French love classification!

Clinging to the hill side.

What does this mean – a remarkable? According to the specifications, all buildings have ot adhere to strict guidelines in finish, materials and look. For example, heaven forbid you use a new  wall coating, it must be ‘lime wash’ in the correct colour. Many battles between Heritage architects, builders and clients lie around the corner! The purists against the practical and cost conscious. Ouch!

Door in Ménerbes.

More flying figurines.

Amazing detail in wax doll.

Madame loved these wax dolls!

A gathering/clutch/flock of santons.

Literally, swinging from the chandelier.

Magnificent decorative ceiling

Quelle difference! A showbox with a difference.
